Mindful Storytelling for Self-Care, Resiliency and Inclusion on Campus

Amy Oestreicher, The Hub CT

Alumni Reading Room, Pratt Library

What are the best practices for us to tune into our own personal stories, as we collaborate on campus?  There is wellbeing that comes from being able to share our story. Staying true to our own intuitions and paths is what enables us to be authentic, compassionate leaders on campus.  This session explores how we can work together to drive a campus community towards inclusion through storytelling. What are the various ways we communicate on campus, how are those messages transferred, and how do we make sure our messages are being perceived with the right intent?

It’s in our best interest to learn to become better communicators for the purposes of an improvement in our emotional, social, and economic statuses. Improved communication also leads to personal resilience, an important factor in the quality of life we lead.

Using mindfulness practice and reflection, participants will reflect on their own personal stories and  contemplative initiatives as contributions to the interconnectedness of campus life. Attendees will be guided through creative exercises to uniquely define themselves, relate to others on campus, and find the expressive tools to reconnect with themselves, while also connecting with the openness and proactive dialogue for supporting their campus communities.
