HAPPY U IS THE HAPPINESS SCHOOL OF

CONTINUING HIGHER EDUCATION BY LIONEL KETCHIAN

Amy Oestreicher

Journey from Gutless to Grateful!

Amy incorporates humor and creativity in her talks to transform adversity into resilience. That is the subject of her recently published memoir, my three TEDx Talks, my one-woman musical Gutless & Grateful. This is what drives Amy forward in the midst of uncertainty. Amy was the keynote speaker for the AATH 2018 conference, and have been involved with the organization, as well their Humor Academy for several years.

Sometimes, it’s easier for us to talk about difficult things when we can find the humor in it.

But what if that humor feels impossible to find?

It’s not so easy to “keep it positive” or put on a “happy face” when experiencing difficult events.

We always hear that it’s better to “talk about things.” But how can we ease that process for ourselves? You might be surprised.

Amy learned to find the joy - and even humor - through "unthinkable" trauma, and discovered how happiness is a key to building resilience and moving through any uncertainty.

A bit more about Amy:

My name is Amy Oestreicher - I'm a PTSD specialist, multidisciplinary artist, Huffington Post columnist, global speaker, Audie-Award nominated author, and playwright. As you'll hear in my three TEDx Talks, I'm also a survivor of sexual abuse, 28 surgeries, coma, organ failure, six years unable to eat or drink, and the PTSD that comes from ten years of trauma, starting from my senior year of high school.

My memoir, My Beautiful Detour: An Unthinkable Journey from Gutless to Grateful, was newly awarded Best Memoir/Autobiography 2nd place in the 2019 Connecticut Press Club Awards. I've recently led online creative workshops, book discussions, and literary programs based on my story, sharing my adventures navigating the detours that stemmed from "unthinkable" traumas through the unwavering compass of creativity to spark joy, humor and positive change.
